Chambers, Smith Named AMCC Softball Players of the Week

4/15/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona softball swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week awards on Monday, as sophomore first baseman Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) was named Hitter of the Week and senior pitcher Jackie Smith (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) took the Pitcher of the Week honor.

Chambers had a big week for the Lady Lions, batting .409 with nine RBIs, one double, three home runs, and just one strikeout. She was a key component in Penn State Altoona's lineup, helping her team go 8-0 against conference opponents Pitt-Greensburg, La Roche College, Franciscan University, and Hilbert College.

Smith posted a 3-0 record in the circle last week, allowing just two earned runs in 17 1/3 innings pitched. Two of her three starts were complete game shutouts, including a one-hit shutout of Hilbert on Sunday afternoon. Smith finished with 13 strikeouts and walked only six batters.

Penn State Altoona is first in the AMCC with a 10-2 conference record. The Lady Lions hold a 17-5 mark overall.
