Lions Baseball Swept 9-3, 9-0 at Frostburg
4/26/2013 — FROSTBURG, Md. - Penn State Altoona baseball suffered a non-conference doubleheader sweep at the hands of former Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Frostburg State University on Friday afternoon at Bob Wells Field, losing 9-3 and 9-0.
Frostburg got out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before the Lions got on the board in the top of the third. Jeff Deveney (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) led off the frame with a single and came around to score on a fielder's choice.
But the Bobcats put together a five run fifth inning to go up 9-1.
Matt Schmauder's (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) two-run double to center in the seventh made it 9-3.
Penn State Altoona was shut out in game two, as three Frostburg pitchers combined to limit the Lions to just three hits over seven innings while recording 10 strikeouts.
Frostburg scored three runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to put nine on the scoreboard.
Deveney led Penn State Altoona at the plate on the day with a 3-for-6 performance, and Schmauder collected all three RBIs for the Lions.
