Lady Lions Rally Past Mount Aloysius 7-5

ALTOONA, Pa. - The #1 seed Penn State Altoona softball team opened its competition in the 2013 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 7-5 comeback win over #5 Mount Aloysius College on Friday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field.

The Lady Lions trailed 5-1 after four innings before scoring six unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.

The Lady Mounties jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, courtesy of RBI singles from Jalisa Westover and Marissa Ayers.

Lindsy Sammarco doubled Mount Aloysius' lead in the second when she hit a two-run home run to center field.

Penn State Altoona got on the board in the bottom of the second on Clarissa Keller's (Spring Mills, PA/Penns Valley) RBI single to right.

Mount Aloysius got that run back in the third when Westover scored on a wild pitch, making it 5-1.

But the Lady Lions came up with a big fifth inning to tie the game 5-5. An error allowed Keller to score from third, opening the scoring in the frame. Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) added an RBI single to shortstop, and Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) came up with a clutch, game-tying two-run single up the middle.

Penn State Altoona kept its momentum going in the sixth. Keller scored on a wild pitch to break the tie, and Glunt drew a bases loaded walk to make it 7-5.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) set the Lady Mounties down in order in the seventh to seal the win. DeArmitt picked up her eighth win of the year, pitching a pair of scoreless innings of relief.

Glunt finished the day with three RBIs to lead Penn State Altoona. Chambers, Keller, and Lauren Bove (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) each had two hits.

Westover led Mount Aloysius at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance.

With the win, Penn State Altoona will face #2 seed D'Youville College on Saturday, May 4 at 1:00 PM.
