Baseball Swept in AMCC First Round Games at Mount Aloysius
5/4/2013 — CRESSON, Pa. - Penn State Altoona baseball was eliminated in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday, losing 5-0 and 8-0 to Mount Aloysius College at Caladra-Smith Field.
In game one, a balk brought in the first run of the game for Mount Aloysius in the bottom of the first.
The score remained the same until Ian Helsel's two-run home run in the fifth increased the Mounties' lead to 3-0.
Mount Aloysius used another two-run homer to boost its lead in the sixth, this time off the bat of Connor Bowie.
In the seventh, Penn State Altoona loaded the bases with one out, but the Lions came up empty handed as the Mounties closed out the game with a win.
In the second game of the day, Mount Aloysius took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when a run came home on a groundout. The Mounties made it 2-0 in the second when another run scored on an error.
In the third, a sacrifice fly from Lucas Szymanski brought in another run, and another Penn State Altoona error led to a Mount Aloysius run that increased the home team's lead to 4-0.
The Mounties posted four runs in the sixth, icing the win in game two.
Ken Terpack (Rennerdale, PA/Chartiers Valley) and Jeff Deveney (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) each finished the day with two hits for Penn State Altoona, including a double apiece.
