8/1/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona was voted into fifth place in the 2013 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on Thursday afternoon.

Penn State Behrend, the 2012 regular season champion of the AMCC, was voted into first place in the poll. Medaille College, which claimed the 2012 AMCC Championship, was picked to finish second this year.

Penn State Altoona heads into this season looking to improve upon last year's 9-23 overall record and 4-5 mark in the conference. The Lady Lions are led by head coach Phil Peterman, who enters his sixth year at the helm of the program.

Named as a "Player to Watch" for the Lady Lions is senior Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch). Last season marked McDowell's first year with Penn State Altoona, and she picked up Second Team All-AMCC honors. She ranked fourth in the conference in kills with 326, while finishing fifth in hitting percentage with a .237 clip.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball opens its season at Gettysburg College on Friday, August 30 in the Battlefield Classic.
