Women's Soccer Picked Fifth in AMCC Preseason Poll

8/2/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer was predicted to finish fifth in the conference this season in the 2013 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released on Friday.
Penn State Behrend, which has won the AMCC Championship each of the past two years, was picked to win it for the third year in a row, as they were voted into the top spot in the poll.
Penn State Altoona finished seventh in the AMCC last year, going 3-15 overall and 3-6 in the AMCC. Head coach Pam Snyder Etters, entering her fourth year, will look to guide her young team higher in the conference standings.
Named as "Players to Watch" in 2013 for the Lady Lions were sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and sophomore midfielder/forward Theresa Deppenschmidt (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury).
Strubhar earned Third Team All-AMCC honors after her freshman season last year. She started 14 games for Penn State Altoona in 2012, logging 1157:21 in goal and making 108 saves.
Deppenschmidt was also named to the Third Team of the All-Conference squad last year. She tied for the team lead with four goals and finished second in points with 10.
