Lady Lions Split Saturday Matches at Gettysburg; McDowell Named to All-Tournament Team

8/31/2013 — GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Dickinson College 3-0 in the second and final day of the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic at the Bream Gymnasium. Later in the afternoon, the Lady Lions lost 3-0 to Gallaudet University.

At the conclusion of the day's matches, Penn State Altoona senior middle hitter Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Penn State Altoona began its day by sweeping Dickinson 25-18, 28-26, and 25-20.

Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) and Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) each had seven kills, tying for the team lead.

McDowell had six kills and a team-high solo blocks to go along with three block assists.

Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) led the squad with 17 digs, while Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) added 10 digs.

Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) tallied 32 set assists.

The Lady Lions finished the day by losing to Gallaudet 25-17, 25-15, 25-23.

McDowell posted 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss for Penn State Altoona.

Frye led the team with 26 digs, while Britton had 24 digs and Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) contributed 17.

Batzel had 18 set assists.
