Women's Tennis Tops Waynesburg 7-2 in Home Opener
9/4/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis began its 2013 schedule on its home court on Wednesday afternoon, defeating non-conference opponent Waynesburg University 7-2 at the Adler Tennis Courts.
The Lady Lions took two-of-three in doubles and five-of-six in singles.
The pairs of Cassie Yatcilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East)/Rachael Barbush (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) and Taryn Kramer (Ligonier, PA/Bishop McCort)/Olivia Brown (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff) triumphed in #2 and #3 doubles by scores of 8-3 and 8-2, respectively.
In singles, Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) grabbed a 6-4, 6-2 win in the #1 slot. Christina Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) won in #2 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, Brown followed with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 victory, and Yatcilla pulled out a tight victory of her own in #4 by a 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 decision. Barbush rounded out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win in #6.
Penn State Altoona opens Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Friday, facing Mount Aloysius College at 4:00 PM.
