Lady Lions Grind Out Five Set Win at Shenandoah


9/4/2013 — WINCHESTER, Va. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball hit the road on Wednesday night and beat Shenandoah University 3-2 at the Shingleton Gym.

Shenandoah won a long first set that went 34-32. Penn State Altoona took the next two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-23, but Shenandoah forced a fifth set when they won the fourth 27-25. However, the Lady Lions prevailed 15-11 in the fifth.

Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) led all players with 15 kills, while Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) added 12 kills.

Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) tallied 40 set assists for the Lady Lions.

Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) had a game-high 29 digs, and Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) posted a match-high with five service aces.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball returns to action in the Lebanon Valley College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
