Lady Lions Soccer Edged 1-0 by Alvernia
9/7/2013 — READING, Pa. - Alvernia University used one first half goal to eek past the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, dealing the the Lady Lions a 1-0 loss.
Following a corner kick, Alexis Benton's shot from the left side of the goal found the back of the net at 36:21, and that was all Alvernia needed for the rest of the afternoon.
Penn State Altoona held advantages over Alvernia in several statistical categories, including total shots attempted (9-6), shots on goal (4-2), fouls (3-8), and offsides (0-4). In the teams' meeting in Altoona last September, Alvernia dominated in shots by a 15-0 margin.
Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) started in goal for Penn State Altoona, playing the first half before yielding to Katy Cook (Hollsopple, PA/Bishop McCort) at the start of the second half. Cook made one save for the Lady Lions.
