Women's Tennis Sweeps Pitt-Bradford 9-0
9/7/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis picked up its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory of the season, defeating Pitt-Bradford 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Adler Tennis Courts.
The Lady Lions got off to a strong start by taking all three doubles matches.
The pairs of Michelle Colucci (Middletown, PA/St. John Vianney)/Cassie Yatcilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), Olivia Brown (Camp Hill, PA/Cedar Cliff)/Christina Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Mercy), and Katelyn Piper (Roaring Spring, PA/Martinsburg Central)/Taryn Kramer (Ligonier, PA/Bishop McCort) won by scores of 8-1, 8-3, and 8-4, respectively.
After doubles, Penn State Altoona proceeded to sweep all six singles matches.
Colucci won 6-0, 6-3 in the #1 slot. Thompson followed at #2 with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory. Yatcilla bounced back from a 7-6 loss in her first set at #3 to win the next set 6-2 and take the tiebreaker 10-8. Brown won 6-1, 6-4 in the #4 flight, Kramer was victorious 6-2, 6-3 in #5, and Piper wrapped up singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at #6.
The Lady Lions improve to 2-1 overall, including a 1-1 mark in the AMCC. The squad travels to play non-conference opponent Juniata College on Wednesday, September 11 at 4:30 PM.
