Lady Lions Volleyball Loses Pair of Matches in LVC Invitational; McDowell Named to All-Tourney Team
9/7/2013 — ANNVILLE, Pa. - In the second and final day of the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchman Invitational, Penn State Altoona women's volleyball lost two matches by scores of 3-0 to Franklin & Marshall College and York College.
Franklin & Marshall won 25-13, 25-12, 25-23.
In the match, Penn State Altoona posted five players with double-digit dig totals: Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) with 16, Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) with 13, Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) with 12, Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) with 11, and Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) with 10.
McDowell led the squad with six kills, and Batzel put up 16 set assists.
The Lady Lions wrapped up the day with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 loss to York.
McDowell led her team in kills with nine.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) had three kills and a team-best eight total blocks (two solo blocks, six block assists).
Britton led the team with 11 digs, while Baker and Batzel contributed 10 digs each.
Batzel tallied 24 set assists in the match.
On Monday, McDowell was one of five players named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance on Friday and Saturday.
