Lady Lions Win Home Opener 3-1 Over Frostburg
9/11/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball opened the home portion of its 2013 schedule in winning fashion, defeating former Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Frostburg State University 3-1 in the Adler Gym on Wednesday night.
The Lady Lions looked dominating in the first two sets, winning 25-9 and 25-18. The Bobcats rallied to win the third set 25-20, then made it close in the fourth. But Penn State Altoona pulled out the 25-22 win in that set to take the match.
Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) tied for the match-high in kills with 10, her highest kill total this season. She also led the team with three total blocks.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) and Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) had nine kills and two total blocks each for the Lady Lions.
Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) tallied 39 set assists for Penn State Altoona.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) led the squad with 18 digs, while McDowell, Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria), and Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) totalled 15, 14, and 11 digs, respectively.
Penn State Altoona returns to action next Wednesday, September 18 when they travel to face non-conference opponent Penn State Harrisburg at 7:00 PM
