Women's Soccer Falls 3-2 in Overtime at Westminster

9/11/2013 — NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer suffered a 3-2 overtime loss at non-conference opponent Westminster College on Wednesday evening.

After a scoreless half, the two teams combined to score five goals over the next 48:20.

Casey Gavin (Benton, PA/Benton) scored her first collegiate goal at 58:31 to give Penn State Altoona a 1-0 lead. Gavin took control of the ball, which had found its way through the Westminster defense, and buried an open shot.

Westminster answered at 66:16 when Amanda Turi converted on a breakaway, tying the score 1-1.

The Lady Lions bounced back and retook the lead at 70:46 when Allysia Ketchem (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) played the ball off of a deflection and scored from 10 yards out.

But just over two minutes later, the Titans' Mere Mishler tied the game 2-2, ultimately sending the contest to overtime.

At 93:20, Westminster's Sammy Creese took a tap pass in the box and found the back of the net to give the home team the victory.

Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) started in goal, playing the first half and making four saves for the Lady Lions. Katy Cook (Hollsopple, PA/Bishop McCort) played the remainder of the game, making two saves.
