Lady Lions Shut Out Susquehanna 1-0
9/21/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - One goal was all Penn State Altoona women's soccer needed to win on Saturday afternoon, as the team posted a 1-0 shutout of non-conference foe Susquehanna University at Spring Run Stadium.
The victory lifts the Lady Lions' record to 2-4 this season, with both wins coming at home. The team has won four of its past five home games, dating back to last season.
Allysia Ketchem (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) scored her fourth goal of the season to get Penn State Altoona on the board at 19:32. After Theresa Deppenschmidt's (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) shot deflected off of the crossbar, Ketchem headed the rebound past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
The Lady Lions buckled down defensively the rest of the game, limiting the Crusaders' scoring opportunities while largely controlling possession.
Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) made five saves for Penn State Altoona, earning both her first win and first shutout of the year.
