Lions Roar Back, Overtake Baptist Bible in 4-3 Win
9/21/2013 — CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit on Saturday afternoon to defeat Baptist Bible College 4-3. The victory is the first of the 2013 season for the Lions.
While Penn State Altoona dominated statistically for much of the game, the Lions trailed 3-1 at halftime.
Baptist Bible's Peter Paye made it 1-0 at 4:16 when he capitalized on a turnover in the box and scored.
Just under three minutes later, Penn State Altoona's Logan DeNicola (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.
The home team reclaimed the lead at 15:59 on Josh Taylor's goal before Paye netted his second of the game at 41:58 to put his squad ahead 3-1.
But the Lions came out strong in the second half. Cody Beach (South Williamsport, PA/South Williamsport) went right to left inside the 18, scoring to cut the Defenders' lead to 3-2.
Quinn Oyler (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) knotted the score at 3-3 with his goal at 64:17.
At 73:42, Geoffrey Debach (Troy, PA/Troy) came up with the decisive tally, taking a through ball and finding the back of the net to give the Lions their first lead of the game at 4-3.
The team held on, clinching its first victory this season.
Penn State Altoona held big advantages over Baptist Bible in total shots attempted (25-4), shots on goal (13-3), and corner kicks (10-3).
