McDowell Recognized as AMCC Player of the Week
9/23/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - For the second time this season, Penn State Altoona senior middle hitter Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in women's volleyball when the conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
McDowell's strong season continued last week, as she helped the Lady Lions go 3-0 in matches against Penn State Harrisburg, Baptist Bible College, and the University of Scranton.
In those three matches, McDowell tallied 48 kills (4.00 kills per set) and 43 digs (3.58 per set) while hitting at a .317 clip. Her efforts propelled the Lady Lions to climb back to the .500 mark in their overall record (7-7).
Among other AMCC players, McDowell is currently ranked third in hitting percentage (.320), third in kills per set (2.76), and fifth in blocks per set (.76).
McDowell was awarded Player of the Week status once earlier this month, following her performance during the opening week of the 2013 season.
