McDowell Named ECAC Division III South Player of the Week
9/24/2013 — CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Penn State Altoona senior middle hitter Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) was recognized on a larger stage for her exceptional performance last week, as she was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region Player of the Week in women's volleyball on Tuesday evening.
McDowell garnered Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week status on Monday. Now, the ECAC has acknowledged her play last week as being among the best of all Division III women's volleyball players in its South Region.
McDowell continued her strong season last week, helping the Lady Lions go 3-0 against Baptist Bible College, the University of Scranton, and Penn State Harrisburg.
In three matches, she tallied 48 kills (4.00 kills per set) and 43 digs (3.58 per set) while hitting at a .317 clip. McDowell’s efforts propelled the Lady Lions to climb back to the .500 mark in their overall record. In the AMCC, McDowell is currently ranked third in hitting percentage (.320), third in kills per set (2.76), and fifth in blocks per set (.76).
Penn State Altoona is 7-7 with a four-match winning streak.
