Medaille Escapes With 3-2 Win Over Lions
9/28/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Searching for their first-ever win against Medaille College in men's soccer, Penn State Altoona held a lead midway through the second half of Saturday afternoon's game at Spring Run Stadium. But Medaille netted a pair of goals late in the period to come away with a 3-2 win.
The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead at 8:45 with Pablo Ordonez got control of the ball after a deflection off of a Penn State Altoona defender and shot it past the goalkeeper.
But the Lions tied the game shortly after halftime. Dan Kennedy (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) set up Cody Beach (South Williamsport, PA/South Williamsport) with a cross in front of the net, and Beach buried it to knot the score 1-1.
Penn State Altoona grabbed a 2-1 lead at 68:28 when Shane Conway (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) ripped a shot from the right side of the goal that deflected off of the left post and into the net.
But Medaille put together a late rush to turn the tables.
At 79:24. John L. Smith tied the game 2-2 when he took possession of the ball in the box and fired a shot past the keeper.
The Mavericks reclaimed the lead at 83:03 when an Ordonez pass was headed into the net by Michael Jackson, making it 3-2 and ultimately clinching the victory.
Aaron Ballish (Apollo, PA/Kiski) made two saves in net for Penn State Altoona.
