Women's Volleyball Opens AMCC Play With Split
9/28/2013 — ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball began its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon at Penn State Behrend, defeating Medaille College 3-1 and losing to Behrend 3-0.
Against Medaille, the Lady Lions triumphed 25-14, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) led all players with 20 kills, while Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) and Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added seven kills apiece.
Kristi Batzel (Osberburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) tallied 45 set assists and added 11 digs.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) posted a total of 26 digs, and Sarah Seibert (Stoystown, PA/North Star) added 16 digs.
In the team's second match of the day, they lost to host team Penn State Behrend by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.
McDowell again posted a match-high total for kills with 11.
Britton was second on the squad with seven kills and tied for the team-high with 10 digs. Baker also totalled 10 digs.
Batzel had 30 set assists to go along with eight digs.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) contributed nine kills in the match.
