Deppenschmidt Key in Lady Lions' 4-3 Win Over La Roche
10/1/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Theresa Deppenschmidt (New Hope, PA/New Hope-Solebury) scored a goal and recorded three assists to help lead Penn State Altoona women's soccer to a 4-3 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College on Tuesday night at Spring Run Stadium.
The Lady Lions outshot La Roche 22-8 and came up with enough goals to withstand a late comeback attempt by the visitors.
The Lady Redhawks struck first when Carly Sorco floated a tough angle shot into the net from the right side at 29:39.
But Penn State Altoona tied the game 1-1 at 44:48 when Deppenschmidt rifled a direct kick past the goalkeeper.
Allysia Ketchem (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) put the Lady Lions up 2-1, taking Deppenschmidt's pass and chipping it past the keeper at 57:34 for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
At 65:21, Daijanae Greene (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) headed Deppenschmidt's cross into the net for her fourth score of the year, making it 3-1.
Deppenschmidt notched her third assist of the game on the next goal, setting up Sarah Kramer (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), who scored to give her team a 4-1 lead. Kramer's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
La Roche made it close in the closing minutes of the game, getting goals from Melissa Spreng and Alexandra Shaver to cut the Lady Lions' lead to 4-3.
But time ran out for La Roche, as Penn State Altoona closed out the evening with a victory.
