Women's Volleyball Collects Two Wins on Saturday
10/5/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball hosted a tri-match in the Adler Gym on Saturday, and they came away undefeated as they beat Rutgers-Newark 3-0 and McDaniel College 3-2.
Penn State Altoona cruised past Rutgers-Newark 25-9, 25-15, and 25-10.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) had a match-high 15 kills to go along with nine digs.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) added seven kills and posted two solo blocks and two block assists.
Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) had 21 set assists, and Leah Brutz (Windber, PA/Windber) contributed 11.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) led the team with 11 digs, and Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) was second with 10.
The Lady Lions had a tougher battle against McDaniel. After Penn State Altoona won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-18, the Green Terror bounced back with 26-24 and 25-20 wins to force a fifth set. But the Lady Lions prevailed 15-11 to take the match.
McDowell led the team again with 16 kills, while Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) had 13 and Hammer contributed 12.
Britton added 11 digs to her stat line, while Hammer put up three solo blocks and six block assists.
Tori Callihan (Ashburn, VA/Bishop O'Connell) had 11 kills, and Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added 10.
Batzel had a match-high 49 set assists and added 13 digs.
Baker led all players with 22 digs.
