Lady Lions Get Late Goal, Tie D'Youville
10/5/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Sarah Kramer (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) scored a goal late in regulation to help save Penn State Altoona women's soccer from sustaining a loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe D'Youville College on Saturday, and the Lady Lions went on to tie 1-1 with the Lady Spartans at Spring Run Stadium.
D'Youville took an early 1-0 lead when Nicole LaVere took possession of the ball in the left side of the box and beat the goalkeeper to her left.
The scored remained the same until Penn State Altoona began to increase the pressure late in the second half. Their attempts paid off when Kramer took a pass from Allysia Ketchem (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) to the left of the goal and fired the ball past the keeper to knot the score 1-1 at 85:22.
With the score tied 1-1 after 90 minutes, the teams played two overtime periods. But despite the Lady Lions holding a 3-1 advantage in shots during overtime -- including several scoring opportunities -- the game ended in a tie.
Penn State Altoona limited D'Youville to just seven total shots, including four on goal, in 110 minutes of play.
Katy Cook (Hollsopple, PA/Bishop McCort) started in goal for the Lady Lions and made two saves before exiting in the second half. Mackenzie Strubhar (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) entered in relief and made one save.
