Women's Tennis Edges Greensburg 5-4, Clinching Fourth Seed in AMCC Tournament




10/6/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis won a crucial match against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Lady Bobcats 5-4 at the Adler Tennis Courts.

With the victory, Penn State Altoona clinches the fourth seed in the upcoming AMCC Tournament. They will host a first round match against fifth-seeded Pitt-Greensburg this Saturday, October 12.

The Lady Lions won two out of three doubles matches, which proved to be the deciding factor in the final score.

The duos of Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney)/Cassie Yatcilla (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East) and Christina Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Mercy)/Rachael Barbush (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) won by scores of 8-6 and 8-4, respectively.

In the six singles matches, Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Greensburg split.

Colucci won in the #1 flight 6-3, 6-3, Thompson claimed victory in #2 singles 6-2, 6-1, and Barbush earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in #4 singles.

The Lady Lions wrap up the regular season with a 6-6 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in the AMCC.
