Barbush Named AMCC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
10/14/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona freshman Rachael Barbush (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday.
Barbush posted the deciding win in singles to clinch a first round AMCC Tournament victory over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. In #4 singles, she triumphed 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
Barbush also picked up a victory in #2 doubles, as she paired with Christina Thompson (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) to defeat their opponents 8-5.
This season, Barbush is tied for the best record on the women's tennis squad in singles, going 8-3 overall. In doubles, she and Thompson have compiled a 6-2 record as a duo.
Penn State Altoona will play in the AMCC Tournament semifinal round on Saturday, October 19, facing top-seeded Penn State Behrend at 3:30 PM at Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club in Pittsburgh.
The Lady Lions are 7-6 overall this season and finished the regular season with a 5-3 mark in the AMCC. They hold the fourth seed in the AMCC Tournament.
