Lions Triumph 2-1 in Overtime Thriller With Mount
10/15/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - On Monday, junior midfielder Trent Landis (York, PA/Central York) was awarded for his defensive play. On Tuesday, he was rewarded for his offensive play when he scored the game-winning goal in double overtime over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Mount Aloysius College at Spring Run Stadium.
Landis was recognized as the AMCC's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his key role in his team's four-game shutout streak, but it was his decisive goal -- the first of his collegiate career -- during the second overtime period on Tuesday that directly led to a Penn State Altoona win.
At 103:15, Landis headed a pass from Garrett Storm (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) past the goalkeeper to give the Lions their fifth straight victory.
Penn State Altoona took a 1-0 lead at 50:37, when Quinn Oyler (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) ripped a shot past the goalkeeper following a deflection in the box.
But just 1:03 later, the Mounties tied the game 1-1, snapping Penn State Altoona's shutout streak as Aubrey Brown got a shot off in the box and beat the keeper to his right.
Despite scoring chances at both ends of the field, the teams found their way into a second overtime period, where Landis and the Lions prevailed.
Penn State Altoona held an 11-6 advantage in total shots.
Goalkeeper Aaron Ballish (Apollo, PA/Kiski) made one save to pick up his sixth win of the season.
