Lady Lions Volleyball Sweeps D'Youville 3-0, Falls to Hilbert 3-2
10/19/2013 — HAMBURG, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball topped Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent D'Youville College 3-0 before losing 3-2 to Hilbert College, who hosted the day's tri-match at the Hafner Recreation Center.
The Lady Lions triumphed 25-21, 25-17, 25-14 over the Lady Spartans.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) had 14 kills to go along with eight digs, two solo blocks, and one block assist.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) added nine kills and one solo block.
Leah Brutz (Windber, PA/Windber) put up 35 set assists, contributed 10 digs, and had five service aces.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) and Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) each had 10 digs for Penn State Altoona.
In the Lady Lions' second match of the day, the team got off to a good start with a 25-19 win in the first set. Hilbert evened the score 1-1 with a 25-23 win in the second set, but Penn State Altoona went up 2-1 after a 25-15 victory in the third. But the Lady Hawks fought for 25-14 and 15-12 wins in the fourth and fifth sets to take the match.
McDowell had 15 kills, 17 digs, two solo blocks, and two block assists.
Hammer added 14 kills, one solo block, and two block assists.
Brutz had 39 set assists and 11 digs.
Baker contributed 15 digs, while Frye had 11.
