Lions Shut Out Barons 1-0 to Keep Win Streak Alive
10/23/2013 — STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Penn State Altoona men's soccer evened its overall record to 8-8 with its seventh consecutive win, shutting out Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Franciscan University 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions held a 32-15 advantage in total shots attempted over Franciscan, but it took until late in the second half for either team to get onto the scoreboard.
Karl Stephan (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley) finally broke a scoreless tie when his goal in the 86th minute, assisted by Garrett Storm (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), put Penn State Altoona up 1-0.
Aaron Ballish (Apollo, PA/Kiski) stopped all eight Franciscan shots on goal to record his fourth shutout of the season.
The Lions carry a 6-2 AMCC record into their final regular season conference contest on Saturday afternoon, a home game against rival Penn State Behrend.
