Lady Lions Grind Out 3-2 Win Over Albright
10/25/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - In a match featuring plenty of momentum swings, the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team found itself on top at the end of the night Friday, prevailing 3-2 over non-conference opponent Albright College in the Adler Gym.
The Lady Lions claimed the first set 25-21, then Albright tied the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Penn State Altoona bounced back to take the third set by a score of 25-17, but the visitors won the fourth set 25-20. In the decisive fifth set, Penn State Altoona triumphed 15-11.
Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) totaled a career-high 54 set assists for the Lady Lions and added 11 digs.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) led all players with 20 kills and contributed 18 digs and two solo blocks.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) had 15 kills, while Tori Callihan (Ashburn, VA/Bishop O'Connell) had 10.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) posted a match-high 24 digs, and Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) and Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) tallied 13 and 10, respectively.
The victory keeps Penn State Altoona perfect at home this season, as the team holds a 6-0 record in the Adler Gym.
