Women's Volleyball Loses to Stevens, Muhlenberg in Tough Non-Conference Matches
10/26/2013 — ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball lost to a pair of solid non-conference opponents on Saturday afternoon at Elizabethtown College, falling 3-1 to Stevens Institute of Technology and 3-0 to Muhlenberg College in the Thompson Gymnasium.
In the Lady Lions' first match of the day, Stevens took a 2-0 lead with 25-14 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets. Penn State Altoona took the third set 25-14, then battled to a 25-20 loss in the fourth.
Amanda Hammer (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) led all players with 14 kills.
Mariah McDowell (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) had 12 kills, 25 digs, two solo blocks, and six block assists.
Emily Baker (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) had a match-high 30 digs.
Becky Britton (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) had 21 digs to go along with seven kills. Emily Frye (Etters, PA/Red Land) tallied 18 digs.
Kristi Batzel (Osterburg, PA/Chestnut Ridge) totaled 36 set assists and added 11 digs.
In their second match of the day, Penn State Altoona was swept in straight sets despite tight scores in each game. Muhlenberg prevailed 27-25, 25-19, and 26-24.
McDowell posted a match-high kill total of 10, while Hammer added seven kills.
Baker contributed 17 digs and Frye had 14. Batzel put up 28 set assists and had 12 digs.
