Women's Basketball Picked Ninth in AMCC Preseason Poll

COMPLETE AMCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON COACHES POLL

10/31/2013 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's basketball was selected ninth in the annual Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released Thursday morning.

La Roche College, which won the AMCC title last year, was picked to repeat in 2013-2014.

Penn State Altoona is coming off of a 2012-2013 season in which the squad compiled a 3-22 overall record, including a 3-15 mark in the conference. The team will feature plenty of new faces, including first-year head coach Casey Shoup.

Named as "Players to Watch" in the poll were a pair of freshmen: forward Courtney Becker (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and guard/forward Devin Stessney (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle).

Becker led Bishop Guilfoyle in rebounds and steals during her senior campaign, and she was a member of the school's District 6 championship team. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team in the annual Jim Ellis Shootout.

Stessney, Becker's high school teammate, was a three-year letter winner in basketball at BG, and was also a member of the District 6 championship team. She was named the Altoona Mirror's Athlete of the Week in 2013.

Penn State Altoona women's basketball opens its season on Friday, November 15 in the University of Mary Washington Tipoff Tournament. The Lady Lions' first home game comes against Saint Vincent College on Wednesday, November 20 at 6:00 PM in the Adler Gym.
