Lions Eliminated from AMCC Tournament by Rival Mounties
11/2/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - In its first-ever AMCC Tournament appearance, the Mount Aloysius College men's soccer team defeated Penn State Altoona 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Spring Run Stadium in the opening round of the conference playoffs.
Penn State Altoona came close to putting the first goal on the board in the first half, as the Lions had several near misses on scoring opportunities. The home team outshot Mount Aloysius 6-2 in the opening period, but the game was still scoreless by halftime.
In the second half, the momentum changed as the Mounties posted a 10-7 advantage in shots. Patrick Chea put the visitors up 1-0 just 1:33 into the second period when he chipped Winston Crozier's free kick past the goalkeeper and into the net.
Kevin Ouellette added an insurance goal for Mount Aloysius at 79:52 when he stole the ball in the box and shot it into the open net.
The Lions made a late push to tie the score but came up empty handed. Quinn Oyler's (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) header shot deflected off of the crossbar, and a goal by Karl Stephan (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley) was negated by offsides.
Aaron Ballish (Apollo, PA/Kiski) made four saves in goal for Penn State Altoona.
The loss eliminates the Lions from the AMCC Tournament, while Mount Aloysius will travel to face #1 seed Medaille College on Wednesday in the semifinal round.
