Slow Start Dooms Lions in 82-73 Loss to La Roche
12/4/2013 — ALTOONA, Pa. - A sluggish start by the Penn State Altoona men's basketball team on Wednesday night contributed to an 82-73 loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College in the Adler Gym.
Dylan Leazier (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) led the Lions in scoring with 17 points and added five rebounds.
Evan Greening (Stafford, VA/Stafford) contributed 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Penn State Altoona struggled to find offense from the field in the first half, shooting just 4-for-28 during the period. The Lions were helped, however, by a strong performance at the free throw line. 11 of the team's 19 first half points came at the charity stripe, allowing the squad to hang around.
In the second half, it was a different story. Penn State Altoona shot 61.1% from the field and outscored La Roche 54-47 in the half.
David Jackson's three-pointer expanded the Redhawks' lead to 47-21 at 17:35 of the second period, and Lionel Perkins hit from three-point range just over two minutes later to keep his team's advantage at 26 points.
Jordan Smith's (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) free throw at 8:56 whittled La Roche's lead down to 55-46, capping a 17-0 run by Penn State Altoona.
But La Roche went back up by 20 points, 70-50, at 4:52 on Andre Flanigan's fastbreak layup, and the Redhawks withstood a late rally by the Lions to seal the win.
