Medaille Grabs 71-62 Win Over Lady Lions
1/11/2014 — BUFFALO, N.Y. - Medaille College powered its way to a 71-62 win over the Penn State Altoona women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in the Sullivan Center.
The Lady Mavericks' dominating rebounding effort was key throughout the game, as Medaille held a 51-29 advantage in rebounds over Penn State Altoona.
Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) led the Lady Lions with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Madison Mossellum (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals.
Medaille took an early lead and never yielded it throughout the duration of the contest.
Taina Graham's fastbreak score at 15:52 of the first half gave the Lady Mavericks a 12-2 lead. Joelle Pollak's transition basket just under three minutes later made it 18-7.
Scores by Corrigan in the latter stages of the period cut Medaille's lead to three points. Daijanae Greene (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) connected from three-point range at 1:59 to make it a one point game, 30-29.
But Medaille came out strong in the second half and expanded its lead, opening the period with a 10-0 run capped by Brittnee Perry's trey that made it 42-32 at 14:50. Later, a pair of fastbreak scores by Pollak gave the Lady Mavericks their largest lead of the game, 59-45. Pollak's three-pointer with 2:35 left in the game kept her team's lead at 14 points.
