Men Split, Women Swept in Swim Meet at York College

1/17/2014 — YORK, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team defeated Gallaudet University and lost to York College, while the women's squad was defeated by both Gallaudet and York in a tri-meet on Friday evening.

The Lions topped Gallaudet 145-51 while falling to York 118-86. The Lady Lions were beaten 93-92 by Gallaudet and 116-59 by York.

The men's squad recorded six first place finishes during the meet.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the squad of Benjamin Porter (West Chester, PA/Unionville), Alex Fisher (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Nick Adcock (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland), and Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) took first place with a time of 1:45.14.

Fisher later won two more events, clinching first place in the 200 Yard IM in 2:03.19 and the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:01.37.

Porter claimed the top spot in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 59.24.

Brendan Farren (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) championed the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 11:01.43.

Zachary Jones (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) won the 100 Yard Butterfly, clocking in at 56.10.

The Lady Lions finished the night with a trio of first places.

Ashley Nero (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton) accounted for two first places, winning the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.50 and the 100 Yard Breaststroke by touching the pad at 1:14.40.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the combination of Melanie Burland (South Park, PA/South Park), Jillian LaMantia (Chatham, NJ/Chatham), Jessica Boyd (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley), and Kelsy Lelko (State College, PA/State College) topped the standings by finishing in 2:00.66.
