2/1/2014 — HAMBURG, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona men's basketball lost 71-56 to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert College on Saturday afternoon at the Hafner Recreation Center.
The Lions committed 24 turnovers in the loss, going -11 on the day in the turnover battle.
Evan Greening (Stafford, VA/Stafford) led all players in points and rebounds, scoring 22 to go along with 16 boards. It was the freshman's 10th double-double of the season and his fourth straight.
Dylan Leazier (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) added 18 points and six rebounds for the Lions.
Penn State Altoona kept things close for much of the first half. A three-pointer from Leazier at 12:14 preceded his jumper at 11:17 that gave the Lions an 18-14 lead.
But Hilbert regrouped and ripped off an 18-4 run to lead 32-22 at the 5:07 mark. Sean Weisansal's fastbreak score with six seconds left until halftime extended the Hawks' lead to 43-32.
Hilbert continued to expand its lead in the second half. Nick Nadeau completed a three-point play at 12:57 to put his team up 60-40, and CJ Hodge's free throw at 10:33 gave the home team a 21 point advantage, the high water mark for the Hawks' lead.
Penn State Altoona closed the gap to as little as nine points late in the period when Leazier's jumper capped a 9-0 run to cut Hilbert's lead to 63-54.
But the Hawks did not yield any more ground, outscoring Penn State Altoona 8-2 in the final 4:13 of the contest to clinch the win.
