BOX SCORE

2/1/2014 — HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Penn State Altoona women's basketball team used a big second half to sail past Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert College 86-62 on Saturday afternoon in the Hafner Recreation Center.

Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) recorded her team-best seventh double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and securing 11 rebounds on Saturday.

Courtney Becker (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) notched her first collegiate double-double, leading Penn State Altoona with 20 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.

Madison Mossellem (Harrison City, PA/Penn Trafford) posted a line of 15 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

Kylie O'Toole (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Trafford) scored 13 points to go along with four assists and two blocks.

Nicole Gripp (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) added 10 points.

Hilbert opened the game by scoring the first three baskets, taking a 6-0 lead at 17:39 on Kylie Reinholz's fastbreak score.

But Penn State Altoona quickly awoke and went off on a 14-0 run to grab the lead. Mossellem's layup at 16:45 tied the game 6-6, and O'Toole's fastbreak layup two minutes later put the Lady Lions ahead by eight, 14-6.

O'Toole's layup at 10:55 increased Penn State Altoona's lead to 20-10, and Brittany Boslet (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) connected from three-point range at 7:18 to make it 29-17.

But the Lady Lions cooled off in the latter stages of the period, and Hilbert took advantage by outscoring the visitors 18-8 in the last 6:23 of the half. Reinholz's jumper at 4:39 cut the Lady Hawks' deficit to 29-24, and her layup 11 seconds before the intermission made it a two point game, 37-35.

Penn State Altoona took charge of the game in the second period, however. The Lady Lions shot 55.9% from the field (19-for-34) while limiting Hilbert to a 29.0% (9-for-31) field goal percentage.

After Hilbert tied the game 43-43 at 17:29 on Emily Speidel's three-pointer, the Lady Lions embarked on a 25-6 run that gave them a 19 point lead by the 9:06 mark. Gripp's trey at 16:37 started the run by breaking the tie, and Becker followed with back-to-back layups. Later, Devin Stessney (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) hit a three-pointer and Becker made another layup to make it 68-49.

A three-pointer from O'Toole at 4:14 gave Penn State Altoona a 77-56 lead, and two consecutive scores from Mossellem increased the team's advantage to 81-59 at 3:34. Corrigan's three-point play at 2:44 gave the Lady Lions an 84-59 lead, their largest of the day.

The Lady Lions' 24 point margin of victory is the largest the win the team has had since they defeated Penn College 68-36 on November 20, 2011 in the Susquehanna University Tip-Off Tournament.

Penn State Altoona's victory increases their AMCC record to 5-8. They currently trail Pitt-Greensburg, which has a 7-5 conference mark, for the sixth and final playoff spot. The Lady Lions will face Pitt-Greensburg this Wednesday, February 5 at 8:00 PM in the Adler Gym for a game which will have significant postseason implications.

Including Wednesday's game, the Lady Lions have five AMCC regular season games remaining. Three of those are home games.
