Lions Remain in Second, Lady Lions Stay in Fourth After Second Day at AMCC Championships

FRIDAY RESULTS

2/14/2014 — GROVE CITY, Pa. - After Saturday's action in the 2014 James E. Longnecker Invitational/Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team remained in second place and the women's team kept its spot in fourth place.

The Lions have a score of 153 points after two days, continuing to trail Penn State Behrend, which has a team score of 166. On Saturday, the squad picked up three more AMCC victories.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Benjamin Porter (West Chester, PA/Unionville), Alex Fisher (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Keenan Halpin (Bensalem, PA/George School), and Kyle Huber (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) combined to take first place with a time of 1:36.66 in the finals.

Fisher won the 100 Yard Breaststroke final -- his second individual win of the AMCC Championships -- with a time of 58.69. Porter placed second in that event, clocking in at 1:00.39.

The Lions recorded their third win of the day in Saturday's final event, the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. Brendan Farren (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), Huber, Zachary Jones (Holland, PA/Council Rock South), and Jay Wareham (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) secured first place with a time of 7:21.80.

On the women's side, the Lady Lions have a team score of 84 after two days, placing behind Cabrini College (156), Franciscan University (117), and Penn State Behrend (97).

The team of Autumn Henderson (Okinawa, Japan/Kadena), Ashley Nero (Oak Hill, VA/Oakton), Sydney Mrozinski (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South), and Melanie Burland (South Park, PA/South Park) took fifth place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay final with a time of 2:05.30.

Later, Nero was the runner-up in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, finishing in 1:12.86.

The Lady Lions wrapped up the day with a fourth place finish in the 800 Yard Medley Relay, as the squad of Jillian LaMantia (Chatham, NJ/Chatham), Devan Sponsler (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Jessica Boyd (Schwenksville, PA/Perkiomen Valley), and Kelsy Lelko (State College, PA/State College) notched a time of 9:41.02.

The AMCC Championships resume tomorrow, Saturday, February 15 at 10:00 AM for the final day of competition. The preliminaries open the day, and the finals follow at 6:00 PM.
