Honors for Suchonic and Tremmel Headline AMCC All-Conference Women's Bowling Team
2/21/2014 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona's Brea Suchonic (Butler, PA/Butler) won the Newcomer of the Year award and coach Lori Tremmel was named Co-Coach of the Year when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its All-Conference squad for women's bowling on Friday.
The freshman Suchonic rolled a 164 average in the conference team format competition and helped the Lady Lions to a runner-up finish in the first-ever AMCC Championships on February 8 and 9. She was twice named the conference's Bowler of the Week during the 2013-2014 season. In team format competitions throughout the season, Suchonic posted the highest pinfall on the team in six out of nine events -- including a season-high score of 1048 in the AMCC Championships.
Tremmel, in her fifth year as the head coach of Penn State Altoona women's bowling, guided the program to its most wins (32) since the team's inception in the 2009-2010 season. She helped the squad win the AMCC regular season championship, as the Lady Lions finished with a league-best 9-3 record against conference opponents, and she coached her team to a second place finish in the conference championships. Tremmel shares the Coach of the Year honor with Pitt-Bradford's Andy Spring.
Named to the All-Conference team from the Lady Lions were Suchonic and Abbi Noel (Altoona, PA/Altoona).
Like Suchonic, Noel bowled consistently well for Penn State Altoona throughout the course of the season. The freshman led the Lady Lions in total pinfall in team format competitions twice, and in the AMCC Championships, she finished second in pinfall on the team with 912.
Penn State Altoona wraps up its season on Sunday, February 23 with a dual match against Mount Aloysius College at 12:00 PM at Holiday Bowl in Altoona.
