Men's Tennis Edged 5-4 in Season Opener at Saint Vincent

3/17/2014 — GREENSBURG, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's tennis began its 2014 schedule with a tightly-contested 5-4 loss to non-conference foe Saint Vincent College on Sunday evening at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

The Lions led 2-1 after doubles play. The duos of Chris Reighard (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Alex Albright (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Joe Settimio (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Antonio Vergari (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) won in #2 and #3 doubles, respectively, by scores of 8-2 and 8-2.

But the Bearcats took four out of six singles matches to clinch the overall match victory.

The Lions' lone wins in singles came from Patrick Albright (York, PA/York Catholic), who won 6-4, 6-2 in #3 singles, and Alex Albright, who prevailed 7-6 (6), 6-1 in #5 singles.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis opens its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schedule on Friday, March 21 at 3:30 PM against Franciscan University. The match is scheduled to take place at the Summit Athletic Club in Altoona.
