Men's Tennis Grabs First Win of 2014, Defeating Behrend 7-2
4/5/2014 — ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team put one in the win column for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon when it defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend 7-2 at the Westwood Racquet Club.
The team's victory over Behrend is its first win against its AMCC rival since March 20, 2010, when the Lions prevailed 5-4.
Penn State Altoona opened the match by sweeping doubles play to seize a 3-0 lead.
The duo of Adam Hack (York, PA/York Catholic)/Patrick Albright (York, PA/York Catholic) won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles, Chris Reighard (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Jorge Requena (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Carol Morgan School) triumphed 8-3 in No. 2 doubles, and Alex Albright (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Joe Settimio (Altoona, PA/Altoona) were victorious 8-4 in No. 3 doubles.
The Lions proceeded to take four out of six singles matches to clinch the five-point victory.
Hack won 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles, and Patrick Albright followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 3 flight. Alex Albright played to a 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 4 singles, and Ben Settimio (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 6 slot.
With the win, Penn State Altoona men's tennis is 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the AMCC. The Lions return to non-conference action on Sunday, April 6, traveling to face Frostburg State University at 3:00 PM.
