AMCC Announces Winter All-Sportsmanship Team for Day One of Division III Week
4/7/2014 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - To kick off its celebration of NCAA Division III Week, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced on Monday its 2013-2014 All-Sportsmanship Team for its five winter sports, and it included a Penn State Altoona student-athlete in each of those five.
Long known for its "Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Positive" campaign to encourage fans to create a spirited but respectful game atmosphere, the AMCC also recognizes student-athletes who represent the best in competitive character.
To honor this important core value of the conference, AMCC student-athletes in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, and women's bowling recently nominated 33 of their teammates to be honored as members of the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team. These individuals are selected by vote of their teammates.
In the fall, AMCC student-athletes in seven championship sports also selected 58 of their peers for recognition as representing the highest level of sportsmanship for their teams. Spring sport nominees will be announced in May.
The student-athletes named to the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team must consistently demonstrate a high level of ethical conduct, respect, and fair play in both practice and competition, whether on the sidelines or as an active competitor. Such sportsmanship shall be evident toward teammates, coaches, opponents, officials and fans. He/She must also serve as a positive representative of school spirit when a spectator at other teams’ sporting events.

Division III Week is a nation-wide celebration of the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on college campuses and their surrounding communities. During this period, each Division III athletics program and conference offices are encouraged by the NCAA to conduct outreach activities that fall into one of three categories: academic accomplishment, athletic experience, or leadership/community service/campus involvement.
