Lady Lions Take Two From Pitt-Greensburg
4/8/2014 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona received timely hitting and good pitching in a 2-1 and 3-0 doubleheader sweep of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Greensburg at Stewart Athletic Field.
Gina Ricci (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to help propel the Lady Lions to a win in game one.
Starting pitcher Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) pitched a complete game to record her 10th win of the season. In seven inning, she struck out seven batters while allowing only five hits and one walk.
Penn State Altoona broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to a Clarissa Keller (Spring Mills, PA/Penns Valley) RBI hit through the left side.
Pitt-Greensburg tied the game in the top of the fifth on Virginia Roche's RBI single to center.
But Allie Simpson's (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle) leadoff single in the seventh helped set up a walkoff for Penn State Altoona, as Ricci later plated Simpson with a base hit through the right side to give the Lady Lions a victory.
In game two, the Lady Lions had another strong start in the circle from Kate Burge (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola), who went seven shutout innings and struck out seven batters while allowing only three hits and two walks.
Amanda Brennan (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) put Penn State Altoona up 2-0 in the bottom of the first with her two-run single to center.
Lily Glunt's (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) RBI hit in the fifth increased her team's advantage to 3-0.
Penn State Altoona improves to 17-6 overall and 6-2 in the AMCC.
