Lady Lions Sweep Hilbert in Saturday Doubleheader

4/12/2014 — HAMBURG, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona softball made it three straight doubleheader sweeps on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hilbert College by scores of 17-3 and 10-1.

In game one, Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven to pick up win number 12 on the season.

Lily Glunt (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle), Gina Ricci (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley), Cassondra Ross (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle), and Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) each had a three-hit game. Glunt drove in a team-high three runs.

Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle), Clarissa Keller (Spring Mills, PA/Penns Valley), and Ala Miller (Muncy, PA/Muncy) finished the game with two hits each.

In game two, Smith led all players with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, including her first home run of the season.

Chambers, Glunt, and Amanda Brennan (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) collected two hits apiece.

Kate Burge (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) threw a complete game, giving up only one unearned run on just two hits and one walk. She struck out five batters in her sixth win of the year.

Penn State Altoona softball increases its overall record to 21-6 with today's wins, including a 10-2 mark in the AMCC. Next up, the Lady Lions face D'Youville College tomorrow, Sunday, April 13, in Buffalo, N.Y. Because that doubleheader is a makeup of Friday's home games, Penn State Altoona will be the designated home team despite playing at a different venue. The start time for the doubleheader has been moved to 1:00 PM from its original time of 11:00 AM.
