Lions Tennis Edged 5-4 at Bethany
4/19/2014 — BETHANY, W.V. - Penn State Altoona men's tennis finished its 2014 regular season schedule with a tough 5-4 loss at the hands of non-conference opponent Bethany College on Saturday afternoon at the Mary Ewing Tennis Center.
Bethany claimed victory in two of three doubles matches to grab the early lead. The Lions' lone win in doubles came in the No. 2 flight, where the duo of Chris Reighard (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Jorge Requena (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Carol Morgan School) pulled out a 9-8 (7-5) win.
The Lions and Bison split the singles matches 3-3. Adam Hack (York, PA/York Catholic) won 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, Joseph Settimio (Altoona, PA/Altoona) triumphed 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 flight, and Ben Settimio (McMurray, PA/Peters Township) posted a 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 victory in the No. 4 slot.
Penn State Altoona's record drops to 3-7 overall. The Lions will face the top seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, Franciscan University, on Saturday, April 26 at 3:30 PM in the opening round of the conference's postseason tournament at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pa.
