DeArmitt, Smith Bag Weekly Awards from AMCC
5/5/2014 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Following their team's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship on Sunday, Penn State Altoona junior pitcher Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and senior second baseman Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) were named the conference's Pitcher and Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
DeArmitt started all three games for the Lady Lions in the AMCC Tournament this past weekend. She went 2-0, including winning the conference title game over Mount Aloysius College on Sunday. In 17 2/3 innings of work, DeArmitt posted a 3.96 earned run average while striking out 12 batters. She recorded her league-leading 15th and 16th wins of the season to lead Penn State Altoona to its second consecutive AMCC crown.
Smith stepped up in a big way to lead her team to an AMCC title in the final conference games of her collegiate career. The senior helped the Lady Lions achieve comeback wins against Mount Aloysius on Friday and Pitt-Bradford on Saturday by driving in the game-tying run late in each of those contests. In the tournament, Smith batted 7-for-12 with two doubles, three runs batted in, four runs scored, and one walk drawn. She posted a .615 on-base percentage and slugged .750.
