Men's Swimming Wins Peak Performer Award from AMCC
5/30/2014 — PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team was recognized for its collective accomplishments in the classroom by the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on Thursday evening when it was granted the Peak Performer Award.
The AMCC's Team Peak Performer Awards were established two years ago to recognize outstanding academic achievement by one team in each sport. The award is given to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in its respective sport during the past academic year.
Penn State Altoona men's swimming finished with a 3.15 team GPA, ranking first among all conference men's swimming teams. This marks the third consecutive year that the squad has won the Peak Performer Award.
The award caps an impressive year by the Lions as a team, both in and out of the pool. In addition to clinching the top cumulative GPA among its peers, the team posted its best-ever showing in the AMCC Championships in February. The Lions finished the AMCCs as runners-up and recorded a point total of 207, which was the most the program has ever scored in eight years of competition in the conference championships.
Men's swimming's honor is the second Peak Performer Award earned by a Penn State Altoona team during the 2013-2014 year. After the fall season on competition, the men's cross country squad was rewarded for its academic achievements by the AMCC with a Peak Performer Award.
