Head Coach Greg Ferguson
Greg Ferguson enters his first season as the head coach of Penn State Altoona men’s golf.
Ferguson was a 1979 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, where he was a district champion and two-time PIAA state qualifier in golf. He was awarded a golf scholarship to Odessa College in Texas but opted to play the Mini Tour during the winter of 1980.
Ferguson worked as an assistant golf pro at Iron Masters Country Club and Centre Hills Country Club for one year each. During that period of time, he won several Pro Ams and qualified to the final stages of the US Open Championships twice.
Ferguson has played in numerous statewide professional events. He won the West Penn Two ball on two occasions and also won the 1999 PA State Championship, all with Artie Fink as his partner. Ferguson also finished among the top 15 in several other PA State Championships. He maintained his pro status for seven years before returning to amateur golf. Over the past 20 years, he has competed in many local amateur events.
In 2004, Ferguson became the head golf coach at Tyrone Area High School, a position he continues to hold. He also operates an indoor training, practice, and repair facility with state of the art equipment. He provides youth golf lessons to kids ages 7-18.
