FREDONIA, Ny. - Edgar Albarran scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute, pushing Wisconsin Lutheran past Penn State Altoona 2-1 in double overtime on the final day of the Fredonia State Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The game was knotted at 1-1 after regulation and the first extra session before Albarran headed home a James Sather cross from the right wing at the 105:22 mark.  The Warriors managed only two shots on goal the entire game, converting both, and were out-shot by the Lions 21-8.

After a scoreless first half, junior Corey Suter (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) fired a shot past Wisconsin Lutheran keeper Matt Eisold in the 54th minute to give Altoona the lead.  Griffin Loehner answered for the Warriors 20 minutes later, taking an Albarran pass and blasting it past Lion goalie Marc Zajac (Altoona, PA/Altoona).

Eisold finished with six saves on the day.

Penn State Altoona, which fell to 0-4-1 on the season, attempted 16 corner kicks compared to just eight by the Warriors.  The brutality of the 2008 schedule continues this Wednesday, September 10, with a neutral site contests against the University of Scranton.  Game time is set for 7:00 PM at Balls Mills Soccer Complex in Williamsport, PA.

ALTOONA, Pa. - Holding a comfortable 2-0 advantage with less than 30 minutes to play, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team watched visiting Waynesburg score a pair of late goals to even the contest and earn a 2-2 double-overtime tie with the Lions in the squad's 2008 home opener.

Altoona seemed in control much of the first half and looked to have the game sealed after a Richard Hopewell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) score at the 64:30 mark pushed the lead to 2-0.  But the Yellow Jackets used a JC Danhires goal in the 78th minute and knotted the match just moments later when David Floyd headed home a Nick Munnell throw-in with 3:38 remaining.

The Lions, who fired 16 shots and six shots on goal in regulation, managed only one shot attempt in the two overtime periods.

Sophomore Geremy Graham (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) put Altoona ahead early after classmate Louis Ngonzo-Biyo collected a goalkeeper deflection and played the ball to the middle of the box for Graham, who punched it past Waynesburg's Brad Davis at the 22:31 mark.

Sophomore Dane Kelsey (Muncy, PA/Muncy) recorded his first assist of the season on Hopewell's goal, and Waynesburg's Mike DeAngelis picked up an assist on Danhire's score.

Both squads combined for 44 fouls and four cards including Ryan Gaudy's straight red card six minutes into the first overtime.  Davis finished with four saves while Lion keeper Chris Bolea (Harmony Township, PA/Ambridge) turned two shots away.

The Lions are now 0-2-1 on the season and travel to the Fredonia State University Blue Devil Tournament this weekend.  Altoona opens the two-day event against the hosts from Fredonia on Friday night at 7:00 PM.

BALTIMORE, Md. -  For the second straight day, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team found itself on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision, this time falling to 15th ranked Johns Hopkins University in the consolation game of the Blue Jays own tournament.

The game-winning goal came midway through the first half off the foot of Evan Kleinberg, who gathered a long pass from teammate Corey Adams and blasted a hard shot from the top of the box that beat Lion goalkeeper Marc Zajac (Altoona, PA/Altoona.)

Hopkins out-shot the visiting Lions 19-3 on the afternoon and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.  The physical match produced a combined 32 fouls and two yellow cards.

Junior Corey Suter (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) and sophomore Kevin Fee (Perkasie, PA/Lansdale Catholic) each fired a shot on goal for Altoona, which fell to 0-2 for the first time in program history.  It also marked the second time in school history that the Lion men's soccer team has faced two nationally ranked opponents in the same tournament. The last occurrence came in 2003 when Altoona lost to #14 Ithaca before bouncing back with a victory over #21 Rochester Institute of Technology

Zajac finished with eight saves for Altoona.  His counterpart, Gill Ravi, stopped both shots he faced.

The Lions open the home slate this Tuesday, September 2, as Presidents Athletic Conference foe Waynesburg comes to Spring Run Stadium.  Match time is set for 7:00 PM.
