FACT FILE
Head Coach Tim WassellHollidaysburg, Pennsylvania native and 2006 Penn State Altoona graduate Tim Wassell was named head coach of the Lady Lions women's soccer program just prior to the 2007 season. Wassell replaced long-time bench boss Jim Fee, who stepped down after guiding the women's soccer program since its inception in 2001. Wassell's first season at the helm in 2007 became a resurrection of women's soccer at Penn State Altoona after he guided the Lions to a 13-6-1 overall record and broke numerous season, team, and game records in the process. From 2007-2009, Wassell has helped lead the team to a 48-11-5 record, breaking the season mark for wins each season and winning the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in 2008, while taking runner-up honors in 2009. Wasell has coached an impressive 18 AMCC all-conference selections and two NSCAA Regional All-Americans while himself winning conference Coach of the Year honors twice in 2007 and 2008. Wassell was a national finalist for coach of the year in 2008 after being named the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Great Lakes Coach of the Year. Prior to being appointed head coach, Wassell served as an assistant to Fee in 2006 and handled the program's recruiting efforts. Along with his assistant coaching duties on the women's side, Wassell also spent the 2006 season as an assistant to head coach John Parente and the Lion men's soccer program. He closely aided both coaches in recruiting efforts, organizing practices, and handling player personnel. After graduating from Hollidaysburg Area High School, Wassell began his playing career at Division II East Stroudsburg University. Two seasons later, he transferred to Penn State Altoona, where he starred as the Lions' goalkeeper in 2004 and 2005, capturing numerous conference and regional awards. Both seasons, Wassell was named an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference 1st team all-star and an NSCAA Regional All-American. He was named the Penn State Altoona team MVP both years and compiled a school record 18 shutouts. He was named AMCC Goalkeeper of the Week eight times and ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week another three times. Wassell became the first Penn State Altoona student-athlete to ever be named to the Regional Academic All-American team. His resume also includes a National Diploma and a National Goalkeeper Diploma from the NSCAA.
